The Wings concluded a three-game swing across western Canada, gaining two of the available six points. The trip started Tuesday with a disheartening 8-4 defeat to the Oilers at Rogers Place. Alex DeBrincat, Patrick Kane, and David Perron had a goal and an assist each, but Connor McDavid’s six assists led the offensive charge for the team. Ville Husso returned in goal but exited after making six saves on seven shots just 8:48 into the opening frame. Alex Lyon stopped 22 of 29 shots faced in the relief effort.

On Thursday, Detroit visited Vancouver, where they were handed a second-straight loss at the hands of the Canucks. The Wings outshot the Canucks 28-21 but came up short on the scoreboard 4-1. J.T. Compher scored his 100th NHL goal, and Lyon posted 17 saves. Special teams finished 0-for-5 on the power play, while the top-ranked Canucks buried four at even strength for the victory backstopped by Thatcher Demko’s 27-save outing.

The tables turned Saturday when Detroit traveled to Calgary and picked up a much-needed win by a final score of 5-0. Kane (1 G, 1 A), Lucas Raymond (1 G, 1 A), and Moritz Seider (2 A) led the offensive charge with a pair of points each. The highlight of the game was the 38-save shutout by James Reimer, his second of the campaign.

Kane has been the top performer in the last three games, scoring twice and chipping in three helpers. Compher (2 G, 1 A), Perron (2 G, 1 A), DeBrincat (1 G, 2 A), and Seider (3 A) all tied for the second-most contributions with three points in that span.

Top Performers

Dylan Larkin remains atop the STATS for Detroit with 48 points (24 G, 24 A) through 48 games. DeBrincat is two points back with 19 goals and 27 assists. Larkin and DeBrincat are tied for the most power-play markers on the club this season, with nine each. Raymond has 15 tallies and 29 helpers for 44 points.

The defense is topped by the man they call “Ghost,” Shayne Gostisbehere. He’s scored seven times and earned 26 assists to lead the rearguards in helpers and points. Jake Walman’s 11 markers pace the D-Men. Alex Lyon has 14 wins across 24 appearances between the pipes, including two shutouts. His goals-against average sits at 2.82, and his save percentage is .911.

Standings Update

The Red Wings remain in the Atlantic Division’s fifth spot with a record of 28-20-6. They trail the Lightning by three standings points but have played two fewer games. In the Eastern Conference, they’re seeded eighth with a three-point deficit to both Tampa Bay and Philadelphia. Detroit is in the second wild card spot at the time of publication.

What’s Ahead

The club completes its current four-game road trip back in the states on Monday with a 3:30 p.m. (EST) puck drop versus the Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle. That will be the first of four games next week. They’ll return to the friendly confines of Little Ceasers Arena for a pair of home tilts Thursday against the Avalanche at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday when the Blues come to town for a Noon matinee contest. On Sunday, the Wings head to Chicago for an Original Six matchup with puck drop set for 6:00 p.m.
