Michigan State:

The Spartans defeated Minnesota at the Breslin Center in dominating fashion last night with a 73-51 victory. MSU had three players in double figures: Tre Holloman (12), Jaden Adkins (10), and Xavier Booker (10). The victory moved Michigan State to an 18-2 overall record and a Big Ten-leading 9-0 conference record.

Detroit Lions:

The Lions hired a new offensive coordinator, John Morton, yesterday. Morton was most recently the pass game coordinator for the Denver Broncos for the past two seasons. More significantly, Morton was a part of the Lions coaching staff in 2022 as a Senior Offensive Assistant. Dave Birkett recently quoted Dan Campbell in the Detroit Free Press from an interview he had at the 2023 NFL Combine, where he said, “What John Morton did for us on offense (in 2022) was pivotal, And it was behind the scenes, and I’m not sure everybody understands just how important he was for us.”

Morton’s hire brings back someone familiar with the Lions’ scheme and terminology and who also has experience calling plays, as he was the Offensive Coordinator for the New York Jets in 2017. Morton will have some big shoes to fill however, replacing the Lions’ former OC and new Bears head coach, Ben Johnson, who is widely regarded as one of the best play-callers in the NFL.

Michigan Wolverines:

In a Yahoo Sports report by senior writer Ross Dellenger, it is reported that there is a 137-page document that Michigan has sent to the NCAA in recent weeks. In it, they make it clear they are not looking for any type of negotiated solution. Instead, Michigan intends to fight the allegations of an alleged sign-stealing operation led by former staff member Connor Stalions and that current Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore had any serious involvement with the alleged scheme.

There is nothing earth-shattering as far as new information regarding the Connor Stalions sign stealing case is concerned, but the fact that Michigan has chosen to fight this rather than come to some sort of middle ground with the NCAA only further prolongs this ongoing saga and continues to kick the can down the road for any potential punishment that will be levied upon the Michigan football program and potentially Sherrone Moore.

What’s Ahead:

The Pistons finish off their five-game road trip as they take on the Indiana Pacers at 7 p.m. at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Detroit comes in with a .500 record at 23-23 and currently sits in the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference standings. The Pacers enter tonight with a 25-20 record and are 5th in the East standings but only 3.5 games ahead of the Pistons.

Indiana is led by leading scorers Pascal Siakam (20.2 ppg) and Tyrese Haliburton (18.0), while the Pistons are led by potential all-star Cade Cunningham who is averaging an astounding 24.8 points, 9.4 assists, and 6.4 rebounds per game.

Indiana currently leads the season series 2-1 and is favored tonight by 6.5 points. The over/under for tonight’s game is 232.5 points.
