Pitching Matchup: (DET) Framber Valdez vs. (TEX) Nathan Eovaldi
The Detroit Tigers head to Arlington on Thursday night looking to build on one of their biggest series wins of the season after completing a three-game sweep of the New York Yankees. Despite sitting below .500, Detroit has shown signs of life in recent weeks, and another strong series against the Texas Rangers could keep the Tigers within striking distance of the American League Wild Card race.
First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. ET at Globe Life Field.
Probable Pitching Matchup
Tigers: Framber Valdez (LHP)
2026 Stats
- 4-5 Record
- 4.05 ERA
- 95.2 IP
- 77 Strikeouts
- 1.34 WHIP
Valdez has quietly begun to stabilize after an inconsistent first half. While his overall ERA sits just above four, his recent performances have been encouraging. In three of his last five starts, Valdez has allowed one earned run or fewer while generating plenty of ground balls with his heavy sinking fastball.
When Valdez locates his sinker at the bottom of the strike zone, he forces hitters into weak contact and limits home runs. The biggest challenge has been consistency, as a few rough outings have inflated his season numbers.
Against a Rangers lineup that features several dangerous right-handed hitters, keeping the ball on the ground will be critical.
Rangers: Nathan Eovaldi (RHP)
2026 Stats
- 8-7 Record
- 3.95 ERA
- 100.1 IP
- 101 Strikeouts
- 1.16 WHIP
Eovaldi continues to be one of the most dependable veterans in the American League. Although he experienced some inconsistency during June, he enters tonight’s game fresh off a dominant seven-inning shutout performance.
His combination of a mid-to-upper-90s fastball, splitter, cutter, and slider allows him to attack hitters in multiple ways. Eovaldi has also done an excellent job limiting walks, making him a difficult matchup for a Detroit offense that has struggled to produce consistent run support throughout the season.
